During the winter, up to the beginning of spring, when temperatures rise and days get longer, but the lakes here in Värmland, mid-Sweden are still covered with a thick layer of ice, we will take you on an exlusive ice-fishing adventure!

Icefishing, or fishing through a hole in the ice, is very popular in Sweden, Norway and Finland. If you are patient and dress yourself in warm enough clothes, icefishing can be an experience you will not lightly forget!

Nature, pease and quiet and the rush of hunting under the ice are a few important elements.

Icefishing is for everyone, just because one does not need special skills or equipment to be successful!

Here in mid-Sweden January, February and March are still 'real' winter months. There is between 30 and 60 cm ice on the lakes and even the mighty Klarälven-river is covered with a thick layer of ice.

Dispite of the fact that 'Global warming' has its effect in these parts too, and the past winter were less extreme than the ones everybody here can remember, it still can freeze some 25 degrees Celcius!

In general there is a lot of snow during winter, changing the surroundings by magic into thousants of Chrismas-cards; around every corner a new one!

In these circumstances we take you along on the ice for our icefishing adventure

Just as at our other trips, in small groups and under the guidance of experienced, English speaking guides.

Here we search for the hiding-places of the Arctic Char!

The Arctic Char is closely related to both Salmon and Trout and has traits of both fish.

It is the most northerly living species of freshwater-fish and has even been caught in the Canadian Arctic lakes.

So its a Salmonide that can weigh up to 9 kilo's!

In our parts the fish vary between 1 and 2.5 kilo.

Security is number one as we are concerned, because ice-fishing can be dangerous and recuires some experience.

Thats we at Klarälven Fishing Aventures take all precautions necessary to keep things safe.

The groups are in mutual contact; every angler has a pair of ice-picks and in each group we have resque-ropes.

And of course we will only take you on reliable ice!

Danger lurke mainly in early spring, when the ice starts melting from the bottom and streams from other lakes provide in many weak spots in the ice-floor.

We monitor the situation on a daily basis.

One does not need a lot of expensive equipment to go icefishing, but there are a few items you can not do without.

Most important of course is warm clothing; at temperatures between minus 10 and minus 20 degrees Celcius, it's very important to keep warm and because of the fact that icefishing does not require a lot of movement, a pair of good winter-boots and a warm suit is something one can not do without.

We provide in all the other equipment; ice-drill, ice-scoops to prevent the holes to freeze again, rods and reels plus the necessary bate.

We fish with lures, worms, maggots and shrimps.
